ABRAM-VILLAGE – Chasse Gallant delivered in overtime Wednesday night.

 

Gallant scored 2:52 into the second extra period to lift the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings to a 6-5 victory over the Eastern Maniacs in Game 3 of the best-of-seven semifinal series in the Island Junior Hockey League. The Red Wings will take a 2-1 lead into Game 4, which has yet to be announced. According to the league website, the Red Wings are scheduled to host Game 5 on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

At the Evangeline Recreation Centre, Isaac Knox led the Red Wings’ offence with two goals and two assists. Calvin McRae (1-2), Jason Gallant (1-1) and Alex Morrissey rounded out Western’s scoring. Silas Handrahan (3) and Cole Hackett chipped in with assists.

For the Souris-based Maniacs, Alex Gallant registered two goals and an assist. Spencer Compton (1-1), Blake Jamieson (1-1) and Johnathan Arsenault, with the game-tying goal at 15:55 of the third period. Andrew Campbell (2), Hunter McIntyre (2), Eddie Jenkins and Connor MacIntyre were credited with helpers.

The Red Wings led 2-1 after the opening period, and scored three goals in the final six minutes of the middle frame to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead after 40 minutes.
Bronson Banks earned the goaltending win, and Noah Laybolt was between the pipes for Eastern. The final shots-on-goal totals were 52-36 in favour of the Red Wings, who held an 11-4 advantage in overtime.
