BOISBRIAND, Que. — Prince Edward Island dropped a 3-1 decision to New Brunswick Thursday in their first game of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Gatorade Excellence Challenge in Boisbriand, Que.

Josh Lund from Seth MacLeod scored the Island’s goal on a first period power play.

Evan Nause, Yanic Duplessis and Alexi Daniel scored for New Brunswick.

Pierre-Vincent Guignard made 26 saves for the win while Josh Smith stopped 31 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while New Brunswick led 2-1 heading to the third.

The six-team tournament, which includes two teams from Quebec and one from each of the Atlantic Canada provinces, is a scouting opportunity for the league in preparation for the June 9 draft in Quebec City, Que.

P.E.I. plays Quebec-Blue tonight at 9 p.m. Atlantic and Newfoundland and Labrador Friday at 6:30 p.m. before finishing up preliminary round play against Nova Scotia Saturday at noon.
