Panthers unable to beat Woodland in AUS women's hockey

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Kendra Woodland stopped all 37 shots she faced Saturday in backstopping the UNB Varsity Reds to a 2-0 victory over the host UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action.

Lillian George on the power play and Jennifer Bell scored in the second period for the Reds with assists going to Emma Borbandy, Tamina Kehler and Ashley Stratton.

Camille Scherger stopped 14 shots in the loss.

UNB was 1-for-3 on the power play while killing all four of the Panthers chances with the man advantage.

UNB, which won its third straight game, improved to 11-7-3 while UPEI fall to 11-9-1.

The Panthers were to host the Mount Allison Mounties Sunday in O’Leary, but the game has been postponed due to the pending winter storm. The game will now be played Wednesday, Jan. 30 at MacLauchlan Arena.

The UPEI basketball games set for Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. are still expected to be played. The Dalhousie Tigers were travelling to Charlottetown on Saturday. UPEI has changed its shoot for the cure promotion to the Saturday, Feb. 2, game.
