ALBERTON, P.E.I. — The Western Regals earned a win and a tie as the regular season in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League winds down

The Regals defeated the second-place Kings County Kings 5-2 on Friday night, and skated to a 2-2 tie with the Mid-Isle Matrix on Saturday night.
The Regals, who are 25-1-1 (won-lost-tied), have clinched first place and have one interlocking game remaining against Moncton to complete the 28-game regular season.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, Reese Wyand’s goal at 6:41 of the third period lifted the Matrix into the 2-2 tie. Landon Hardy also scored for third-place Mid-Isle (11-12-5) while single helpers went to Brett MacDonald, Nathan Mahar, Matthew Mills and Carson MacKay.
Austin Callaghan and Chandler DesRoches scored for the Regals, who received assists from Chase Gaudette and Kalim DesRoches.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first and second periods.
Goaltenders were Aiden Williams (Regals) and Matt Jelley (Matrix).

At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris, Thomas Rennie scored a hat trick and added two assists for a five-point night to lead the Regals. Gaudette and Sam Hackett each had a goal and two assists while Carter Cahill (2) and Callaghan added other helpers.
The Regals built period leads of 2-1 and 5-2.
Winning goaltender was Cole Gallant. Nicolas Jamieson was between the pipes for Kings County.
