WORCHESTER, MA - The Worcester Railers officially announced the signing of Summerside native Ryan MacKinnon to a contract on Monday.

MacKinnon joins the East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, after spending the last three seasons with the UPEI Panthers, where he recorded 12 goals and 36 assists for a total of 48 points in 82 games in the Atlantic University Sport Men’s Hockey Conference.
"The Railers are excited to have Ryan make his professional debut with the club," said Railers general manager and head coach Jamie Russell. "We look forward to working with him as he develops his game for the next level."
The 23-year-old MacKinnon will join the Railers for their game in Brampton on Tuesday.
The six-foot and 185-pond defenceman spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) prior to attending UPEI. He played three seasons for the Rimouski Oceanic, was appointed captain in his 2013-14 year and recorded 10 goals, 47 assists for a total of 57 points in 188 games. MacKinnon also played one season with the Charlottetown Islanders, was named the captain and put up 10 goals and 40 assists for a total of 50 points in 64 games.
