SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals and forward Brodie MacArthur remained red hot Wednesday night.
The Capitals, led by MacArthur’s three goals and four assists, defeated the Pictou County Crushers 7-3 in the team’s annual Centennial Classic game played before an announced crowd of 2,047 fans at Eastlink Arena.
MacArthur’s seven-point night increased his league-leading point total to 74 points – 32 goals and 42 assists – in 35 games. The 19-year-old son of Rodney and Kim MacArthur of Summerside has recorded at least one point in the Caps’ last 16 games, and has recorded 40 points during this stretch.

The Capitals, who are 10-0-1 in the last 11 games and have not suffered a regulation-time loss since Dec. 21, improved their MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League)-leading record to 29-5-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Summerside also opened up a three-point lead over the Yarmouth Mariners (26-7-4) in the overall standings.
Cam Roberts (1-2), Ryan MacDonald, Jacob Arsenault and TJ Shea also scored for the Capitals, who were ranked fourth in this week’s Canadian Junior Hockey League top-20 rankings.

Jesse Annear (3), Marc Richard (2), Conor MacEachern, Dylan Riley and Zach Thususka were credited with assists.
Sam Meisenheimer, Barrett Dachyshyn and Kevin Mason replied for the Crushers (15-15-6). Evan Gallant of Abram-Village and Calum MacPherson added helpers.
Period scores
The Caps led 3-1 after the opening period, and extended that margin to 5-2 following 40 minutes.
Overall, the Capitals outshot the Crushers 35-22, including a 19-7 advantage in the opening frame. Winning goaltender was Dominik Tmej, and Matthew Normore was between the pipes for Pictou County.

The Crushers were 1-for-3 on the power play, and the Capitals went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

The Capitals visit the Campbellton Tigers (22-10-5) on Friday night, and return to Eastlink Arena to host the Miramichi Timberwolves (14-21-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
