The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals are now tied for first-place overall in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).
The Capitals scored four power-play goals in a 4-1 win over the St. Stephen Aces in an Eastlink North Division matchup on Tuesday night to improve to 27-5-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). The Caps, winners of eight straight games and 11 of the last 12, and the Eastlink South Division-leading Yarmouth Mariners (25-5-4) each have 54 points, but Summerside has played two fewer games.
The Caps have an opportunity to take over sole possession of top spot on Thursday, when the Truro Bearcats (19-11-2) make their only regular-season visit of the 2018-19 campaign to Summerside. Game time at Eastlink Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Caps, who won three games in three days last weekend, are then back on the road Saturday to take on the Amherst Ramblers (21-9-2).

Before 593 fans in St. Stephen, N.B., Conor MacEachern scored twice while forward Brodie MacArthur had a goal and two assists to extend his point streak to 13 games. MacArthur has accumulated 28 points during this stretch. TJ Shea also scored for the Capitals while Kallum Muirhead, Noah Massie and Josh MacDonald drew assists.
Ryan O’Toole netted the lone marker for the Aces (12-19-3).
The Caps, who were ranked fifth in this week’s Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings, led 1-0 after the opening period, and 3-1 at the end of 40 minutes.

Winning goaltender Daniel Thompson stopped 28 of 29 shots. Joey May was tested 37 times in the Aces’ goal.
