Kowalski, Cameron hired by Hockey P.E.I.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Hockey P.E.I. has new executive and technical directors.

Geoff Kowalski is the governing body’s executive director while Connor Cameron is the technical director. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

“We are pleased to welcome both Geoff and Connor to Hockey P.E.I.,” president Mike Hammill.

“We look forward to having them join our team and help lead the organization as we assist and support our membership in the development and growth of the game on P.E.I.”

Kowalski comes to Hockey P.E.I. from UPEI where he was the risk and contracts officer, responsible for supporting the operational risk management needs of the university. The job included reviewing contracts and the development, interpretation and maintenance of administration policies.
Kowalski has a business degree from UPEI and a law degree from UNB. He has a passion for sport which has influenced both his personal and professional life. He has been part of the rising success of the sport of rugby on P.E.I. as he recently completed a term as president and CEO of the Prince Edward Island Rugby Union.
Kowalski replaces former executive director Rob Newson, who held the position for 13 years before leaving in November to join Hockey Canada as the Atlantic regional director of member engagement department.

Cameron has coached in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and in Europe. Cameron who is a High Performance 1-trained coach also has participated with the Hockey P.E.I. program of excellence. Cameron will be working closely with Hockey P.E.I.’s development council, program of excellence and minor hockey associations to grow the game at the grass roots level.

Cameron has an arts degree from UPEI and is co-owner of Rawsome Juice Bar in Charlottetown.

Cameron replaces Mike White, who held the position for 12 years before leaving for a position with the City of Charlottetown as arenas superintendent.
Kowalski’s first official day with Hockey P.E.I. is Jan. 14 and Cameron will begin on Jan. 17.
