CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Pierre-Olivier (P.O.) Joseph is looking to help the Charlottetown Islanders take the next step.

The Isles captain has played a key role in helping the squad reach the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinal the past two years.

“Obviously, I want to reach further than the semifinal,” he said Wednesday. “I think we were closer last year, so hopefully we get the chance to play in the final this year.”

The mobile defenceman was travelling back to the Island Wednesday from his home in Quebec after being assigned to junior by the Arizona Coyotes. The 2017 first-round pick attended a rookie tournament and main camp with the Coyotes.

“It’s always fun to practice against the best players in the world,” the six-foot-three, 168-pound blue-liner said.

While in Arizona, he watched the Islanders home opener Friday and communicated with his Islanders teammates.

“I really missed them guys,” he said. “I kept in touch with all the guys and how the camp went. . . I’m really excited to see the guys . . . and play together.”

He is looking forward to reconnecting with his billets and the fans and intends to play in Thursday’s home game with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

“I’m really excited to (get) back and start another great season in P.E.I.,” he said Wednesday afternoon from northern New Brunswick.
