CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A banged-up Charlottetown Islanders squad coughed up a two-goal lead with 1:16 left and lost 4-3 in overtime Thursday to the Gatineau Olympiques.
Trailing 3-1, Metis Roelens scored a power-play goal with 1:16 left and Charles-Antoine Roy tied it with four seconds left in regulation at the Eastlink Centre.
Giordano Finoro won it 3:30 into overtime.
Braeden Virtue scored the visitors other goal. Finoro and David Aebischer each had two helpers.
Daniel Hardie had a goal and an assist for the Islanders while Cole Edwards and Lukas Cormier also scored. Jordan Maher had two assists while singles went to Hunter Drew and Xavier Fortin.
Remi Poirier made 28 saves for the win while Matthew Welsh allowed four goals on 25 shots.
The Islanders had 2-0 and 2-1 period leads. Charlottetown was 2-for-5 on the power play while Gatineau was 1-for-6.
Gatineau improved to 20-29-3-2 while Charlottetown is 30-17-4-3. The Islanders hit the road to play the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
