CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Matthew Grouchy had a goal and two assists as the Charlottetown Islanders knocked off the Canadian Hockey League’s eighth-ranked team on Thursday.

Keith Getson, Pascal Aquin and Thomas Casey also scored as Charlottetown defeated the Drummondville Voltigeurs 4-3 at the Eastlink Centre.

Brendon Clavelle, Hunter Drew, Olivier Desjardins, Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Gregor MacLeod each had an assist.

Nicolas Guay and Morgan Adams-Moisan each had a goal and an assist for the visitors while Cedric Desruisseaux also scored. Bastian Eckl, Nicolas Beaudin and Marc-Olivier Duquette had assists.

Matthew Welsh made 33 saves for the win while Daniel Moody stopped 31 shots in the loss.

The game was scoreless through the first period and tied going to the third.

Grouchy scored to go up 3-2 14:23 into the third and Getson scored an insurance goal at 18:05 that proved critical when Desruisseaux scored with 17 seconds remaining.

Charlottetown was 1-for-6 on the power play while Drummondville was 1-for-5.

The Islanders improved to 18-10-1-0 while the Voltigeurs are 20-9-1-1. Charlottetown has won three straight games and are 8-2 in its last 10 games.

The Isles host the Gatineau Olymiques (15-10-2-2) Saturday at 7 p.m.
