KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Jacob Stewart’s goal 1:45 into overtime lifted the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros to a 5-4 win over the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers on Sunday night.

The opening game of the best-of-seven Island Junior Hockey League semifinal series was played before a big crowd at Credit Union Centre in Kensington. Game 2 is scheduled for the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Ryan Boswall (1-1), Barrington Duffy (1-1), Tanner Lund (1-1) and Cale Pierce scored regulation-time goals for the Metros, who completed regular-season play in third place. Taylor Runighan (2), Connor Gray, Zach Ladner, Grant Koughan, Jordan Birt and affiliated player Hunter Bradley chipped in with assists.
Riley Gallant and Jonathan Arsenault each scored twice for the second-place Vipers. Arsenault’s second goal of the night with 6:54 remaining in the third period forced overtime. Riley Smith (2), Dylan Wheatley (2), Garrett Murray and CJ McCardle were credited with assists.
The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period, and the Metros were in front 4-3 at the end of two.
Liam Jay earned the goaltending win over Cameron Visser as the Vipers outshot the Metros 40-33.
