SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Charlottetown Islanders wanted a good start and they got it Friday in Saint John, N.B.

The Islanders scored three times and outshot the Sea Dogs 17-4 in the first 20 minutes en route to a 5-2 victory in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

Daniel Hardie scored twice while captain Pierre-Olivier (P.O.) Joseph had three assists.

Sullivan Sparkes, Nikita Alexandrov and Thomas Casey also scored while Hunter Drew, Brett Budgell, Keith Getson, Liam Peyton and Pascal Aquin each chipped in a helper.

Luke Wilson and Ostap Safin scored for Saint John with assists going to Robbie Burt, Nathan Larose, Aiden MacIntosh and Alexis Girard.

Matthew Welsh made 21 saves for the win while Alex D’Orio allowed five goals on 25 shots in 34:12. Matthew Williams stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief.

The Islanders held 3-0 and 5-1 period leads and went 1-for-4 on the power play while killing all three of the Sea Dogs chances.

Charlottetown improved to 28-18-3-0 while Saint John falls to 12-29-7-2.

The Islanders play in Moncton Saturday at 7 p.m.
