Guertler, Kielly, Hofley lead UPEI over Dalhousie

HALIFAX, N.S. – Gabe Guertler scored a natural hat trick to pace the UPEI Panthers to a 5-3 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Halifax.

Filip Rydstrom on the power play and Beni Berisha also scored in the victory. Kameron Kielly, who is tied with Hunter Garlent of the Saint Mary’s Huskies for the conference’s scoring lead with 32 points, had three assists. Defenceman Owen Headrick had a pair of helpers while singles went to Cody Payne, Bobby Zinkan, Troy Lajeunesse, Sam Aulie and Nick Shumlanski.

Kelly Bent, Jackson Playfair and Mike Evelyn scored for the Tigers. Connor Welsh had a pair of assists while Dillon Boucher, Jonathan Cyr, Campbell Pickard and Connor Donaghey each had singles.

Simon Hofley made 44 saves for the victory while Reilly Pickard stopped 46 shots.

UPEI was 1-for-9 on the power play while Dalhousie was 0-for-7. The Panthers held 2-1 and 4-2 period leads.

UPEI improved to 11-8-2 and is tied with St. FX for third place while Dalhousie (6-16-0) is in last place.
