CRAPAUD, P.E.I. — Firefighters from across the province will be lacing up their skates this weekend in an effort to battle ALS.

The fourth annual charity hockey tournament hosted by the Crapaud volunteer fire department will see proceeds raised go to the ALS Society of P.E.I.

Seven P.E.I. fire departments will come together for the tournament, which kicks off toay at 7 p.m. at South Shore Actiplex.

The tournament has previously raised thousands for a cause close to Crapaud firefighters’ hearts. One of their long-time members of about three decades was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease several years ago.

The past few years have seen thousands raised through the tournament. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000.

“There’s been a very amazing response in the last three years from the community and fire departments on the Island. The community coming together to support this has been huge.”
