It was a four-point weekend for the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers in the Island Junior Hockey League.
The Vipers defeated the Eastern Maniacs 8-1 on Sunday night after posting a 6-3 road decision over the Moncton Vitos in an interlocking game with the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League on Friday night.
In other action Sunday night, the first-place Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings topped the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros 2-0.
Vipers 8 Maniacs 1
In Kensington, the Vipers jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the end of one period, and extended that margin to 7-1 after 40 minutes.
CJ McCardle (3-1), Logan Vandervelden (1-3), Kyle Pinksen (1-2), Dylan Wheatley (1-1), Riley Smith and Jonathan Arsenault scored for the second-place Vipers, who improved to 21-8-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Parker Ronahan had two assists.
Larkin Kennedy replied for the Maniacs (3-24-0).
Winning goaltender Cameron Visser made 47 saves. Overall, the Maniacs held a 48-38 shots-on-goal advantage, including 16-10 and 21-10 margins in the first two periods.
Red Wings 2 Metros 0
In Abram-Village, the Red Wings’ Bronson Banks made 34 saves in earning his second shutout of the 2018-19 season.
Silas Handrahan and Brydon Smith provided goals for the Red Wings (25-3-2).
Western led 1-0 after one period, and 2-0 at the end of 40 minutes.
Overall, the Metros outshot the Red Wings 34-33. Liam Jay was between the pipes for Sherwood-Parkdale.
