CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Hunter Drew has been suspended five games for a check in Wednesday’s game with the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The incident happened 7:23 into the contest.
“The repeat offender Charlottetown player steps up to deliver a body check in the middle of the ice, blind side, that misses completely, hitting his opponent with a shoulder directly to the chin,” said Éric Chouinard, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s director of player safety. “The Saint John player suffered an injury.”

It was Drew’s first game of the season with the Islanders after attending the Anaheim Ducks training camp. Drew sat Thursday’s game and will not be available for the next four games, all on the road, starting Saturday in Sydney, N.S., against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
