RED DEER, Alta. — Dawson Crane scored with nine seconds remaining in overtime Monday night as Newfoundland and Labrador defeated Prince Edward Island 4-3 to finish first in pool C at the Canada Games boys’ hockey competition.

Newfoundland finished 4-0 while P.E.I. is 3-1. Both teams played qualifying round games Tuesday night with P.E.I. meeting British Columbia.

Jacob Squires on the power play, Connor Keough and Max Chisholm scored for P.E.I. in Red Deer, Alta. Captain Jack Campbell had the team’s only two assists.

Brett Hudson, Ryan Greene and Crane also scored in regulation for Newfoundland.

Evan Martin stopped 27 shots for the win while Aiden Williams made 23 saves for P.E.I.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while P.E.I. held a 3-2 lead heading to the third.
