NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – It was a productive Thanksgiving weekend for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals.
The Capitals picked up a pair of solid wins to extend their winning streak to four games while improving to 5-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League). The Caps opened the weekend with a 4-2 victory over the nationally-ranked Yarmouth Mariners, and topped the South Shore Lumberjacks 4-1 in the opening game of the annual MHL Showcase on Monday afternoon.
The Caps, who have allowed just five goals in their last four games, close out the showcase against the host Pictou County Crushers on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Two-point performances
At the Pictou County Wellness Centre, Marc Richard, Calum MacPherson, Josh MacDonald and Kallum Muirhead all had a goal and an assist for the Capitals. Ed McNeill, Brodie MacMillan and Brodie MacArthur were credited with single assists for the Capitals.
Lucas Roy netted the lone goal for the Lumberjacks (3-4-1-0).

Daniel Thompson stopped 25 of 26 shots in earning the goaltending victory. South Shore’s MacKenzie Janes allowed four goals on 25 shots.
The Caps led 1-0 at the half as games in the MHL Showcase feature two 25-minute periods.
