Bearcats win MHL championship

MIRAMICHI, N.B. – The Truro Bearcats won the 2016-17 MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) championship in dramatic fashion on Friday night.

Connor Morrison’s unassisted goal with 1:45 remaining in regulation time broke a 2-2, and Kyle Tibbo scored 25 seconds later as the Bearcats opened up a 4-2 lead over the Miramichi Timberwolves, who closed to within a goal in the game's final minute. The final score of Game 7 of the final series was Bearcats 4, Timberwolves 3.
Truro goaltender Jason Rioux made 35 saves.
The Bearcats now advance to the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian junior A hockey championship in Terrebonne, Que., next week.
