O’LEARY – The Sherwood-Parkdale Team Two Falcons won the Bantam A Division of the fifth annual Hockey Classic tournament in O’Leary recently.
The Falcons went 2-1 (won-lost) in round-robin play, posting come-from-behind wins over Bedford White from Nova Scotia and North River Team Two. This earned the Falcons a semifinal berth against a strong Bedford Blue team that went 3-0 in the round robin.
The Falcons again came from behind to tie the game 3-3 in the third period to force overtime at the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre. Michael Gallant capped the comeback as he picked up the overtime winner to send the Falcons into the championship game.
Sherwood-Parkdale and Bedford White battled for top honours at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre. After neither team was able to score in regulation time, overtime was needed to decide a winner and Gallant netted the championship-winning goal on a one-timer off a perfect pass from Cameron Whitlock after the Falcons had killed off three penalties in the extra period.
Alexander Drake recorded the shutout.
