Paul McFarland officially is out.

So is Andrew Brewer.

The Maple Leafs announced on Friday that Brewer, who was named an assistant coach in June 2015, a month after Mike Babcock was hired, will not have his contract renewed.

In May, the Leafs announced that McFarland, after just a year on the coaching staff, would be leaving once the 2019-20 season was completed to join the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League as head coach. To be sure, the club made that official on Friday.

The moves don’t come as a surprise, as coach Sheldon Keefe, who took over last November when Babcock was fired, will now be able to go in his own direction with assistants.

Speculation persists that Keefe will promote A.J. MacLean, an assistant under him with the Toronto Marlies, to the Leafs staff.
