TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces opened the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League championship series with a dramatic win Sunday night.
Brayden Arsenault registered his second goal and third point of the game with 14 seconds remaining in regulation time to tie the game 5-5. That set the stage for Dawson Sellick, who was set up by Brayden Handrahan (1-3) and Keaton Horne, to net his second goal of the night as well with 5:07 left in overtime to give the Aces a 6-5 win over the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros at the Tignish Credit Union Arena.
The first-place Metros actually have home-ice advantage, but the series opener was played in Tignish due to Friday night’s scheduled Game 1 postponed due to the weather. Game 2 in the best-of-seven series goes Monday at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown at 7:20 p.m.
Brydon Smith also scored for the second-place Aces, who received other assists from Drake Smallman (2), Horne, Will Tuplin and Brett Ramsay.
Owen Arsenault (2), Jake Arsenault (1-3), Brandon Sullivan (1-1) and Derian Vessey contributed goals for the Metros. Tanner Power, Robert Hicken, Logan Toole and Will Levasseur drew helpers.
The game was tight throughout as the first period ended in a 2-2 tie, and the teams entered the second intermission knotted up 4-4.
Winning goaltender Bradley Shea blocked 31 of 36 shots. His counterpart in the Metros’ net, Blake Arsenault, stopped 44 of 50 shots.
