Anderson has two points as UNB beats UPEI in men's hockey

FREDERICTON, N.B. — The first-place UNB Varsity Reds scored four third-period goals Saturday to defeat the UPEI Panthers 7-2 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Fredericton, N.B.

The Panthers led 2-1 after the first period on power-play goals by Cody Payne and Kameron Kielly but went to the third trailing 3-2.

Kris Bennett and Mark Rassell each had two goals to pace the Reds while Morell’s Stephen Anderson, James McEwan and Matthew Boucher had singles. Randy Gazzola, Olivier LeBlanc, Matt Murphy and Chris Clapperton each had two assists while singles went to Tyler Boland, Anderson, Mark Simpson, Matt Bouden and Joe Gatenby.

Kielly, Payne, Owen Headrick and Luke Kirwan had assists for UPEI.

Alex Dubeau made 20 stops for the win while Simon Hofley was peppered with 48 shots in the Panthers crease.

UPEI was 2-for-6 on the power play while UNB was 1-for-7.

The Reds improved to 23-2-3 while UPEI is 13-12-3. The Panthers conclude the regular season by hosting Dalhousie (7-20-1) Friday and St. FX (15-10-3) on Saturday.
