CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – German centre Nikita Alexandrov will play in the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
The 40 players, selected by NHL clubs, were announced on Thursday. The game will take place Jan. 23 in Red Deer, Alta.
“The Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game provides scouts and general managers the unique opportunity to evaluate talent competing in a best-on-best showcase,” said Dan Marr, NHL Central Scouting director. “All 31 NHL clubs contributed to the roster selection and have a great interest in this priority scouting event to see which players can elevate their game under the spotlight.”
Alexandrov has 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 31 games this season. He had 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points in his 66-game rookie season with the Isles before racking up 17 points in 18 post-season games.
The Islanders selected Alexandrov in the first round (50th overall) during the 2017 CHL import draft.
Alexandrov was one of nine Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players to be invited to the game. The others are Rimouski goalie Colten Ellis, defencemen Samuel Bolduc (Blainville-Boisbriand) and Artemi Kniazev (Chicoutimi) as well as forwards Maxim Cajkovic (Saint John), Raphael Lavoie (Halifax), Nathan Legare (Baie-Comeau), Jakob Pelletier (Moncton) and Samuel Poulin (Sherbrooke).
