Brayden Handrahan’s goal with 5:37 remaining in the third period held up as the winner as the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces downed the league-leading Sherwood Metros 6-5 Monday night. The Razzy’s Road House Island Junior C Hockey League contest was played at the Cody Banks Arena.

The Metros led 1-0 after one period but the Aces had the game all tied up at 3-all by the end of the second.

The win, which moved the Aces into sole possession of second place, two points ahead of the South Side Lynx, avenges the Aces’ 5-0 shutout loss to the Metros a week earlier.

Brydon Smith led the Aces with a goal and two assists. Will Tuplin and Drake Smallman were both 1-1. Also scoring were Matt Bowness and Dawson Sellick. Smallman scored the game’s only powerplay goal midway through the third. The Aces were assessed five minors while the Metros took two minors in the contest.

Earning assists for the Aces were Colton Chaisson, Lexin Gaudet, Jayden Arthur and Brayden Arsenault.

Brechan MacLean paced the Metros with a hat trick. Hunter Boudreau and Marc Cummiskey also scored. Earning assists were Chowen Arsenault (2), Brian Leslie (2), Brad Jenkins, Logan Toole, Shawn Corney and goaltender James Duffy. The Metros drew to within one with 22 seconds remaining in the third and Duffy on the bench in favour of an extra attacker.

Duffy faced 43 Tignish shots while the Metros tested the Aces’ Kristen Clements 41 times.
