CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Soccer player Rachel Green has been named the Holland Hurricanes’ female athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 6.
Green, who is from Borden-Carleton and a graduate of Kinkora Regional High School, played solid in all three games the Hurricanes played last week. The centre-back helped lead the charge as the Hurricanes defeated the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves 4-0 on Oct. 1 in Cornwall. She then scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute for a 3-2 decision versus the St. Thomas University Tommies in a battle of the top-two teams in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) on Saturday in Fredericton, N.B.
Sunday, versus the Seawolves in Saint John, N.B., she was steady again on defence as the ‘Canes shut out UNBSJ 2-0.
The five-foot-eight Green is studying in the open academic studies program at Holland College.
The Hurricanes, who are 8-0-1 (won-lost-tied), currently lead the ACAA standings.

Male award
Ehab Moustafa, a member of the Holland College men’s soccer team, has been selected the male athlete of the week.
From Cairo, Egypt, Moustafa scored in each of the Hurricanes’ three games last week. Goals on Oct. 1 versus the Seawolves in Cornwall, Saturday in Fredericton versus the Tommies and Sunday in Saint John versus UNBSJ propelled the ‘Canes to the top of the ACAA standings with three regular-season games remaining.
The six-foot-two striker currently studies in the sport and leisure management program at Holland College.
The Hurricanes (7-1-1) lead the ACAA standings by five points over the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics.
Both Holland College soccer teams have three regular-season games remaining and return to action at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall on Oct. 16 against St. Thomas. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
