CORNWALL, P.E.I. — The Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers’ four-year undefeated streak came to an end on Saturday night.

The host Cornwall Timberwolves defeated the Clippers 22-14 in an exciting Papa John’s P.E.I. Varsity Tackle Football League game played under the lights at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
The Timberwolves led 14-0 at the half as the Clippers’ offence had trouble putting together consistent drives.
In the second half, Cornwall added a touchdown to open up a 21-0 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Clippers scored on a 25-yard Nic Gunning pass to Charlie Turner and a 15-yard Gunning scramble to cut the lead to seven points with just over three minutes left in the contest.
The Timberwolves added a rouge for an eight-point lead, but the Clippers’ offence, which had the ball twice with under two minutes left, could not score again against a strong Cornwall defence.
Summerside’s next game is Friday against the Charlottetown Privateers at Eric Johnston Field in Summerside. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Bantam Spartans
Also Saturday evening, the Summerside Waterwise Bantam Spartans opened their P.E.I. Bantam Tackle Football League season on the road with a convincing 54-0 win over the Cornwall Timberwolves.
Damien Barlow scored two touchdowns to lead the Spartans. Sam Friesen, Jonas Binkley, Aaron Carr, Connor Blood, and Campbell Wadman chipped in with single scores and the Spartans converted six of seven extra points.
The Spartans host Charlottetown on Friday at 6 p.m.
