The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released running back Tre Mason.

Mason, who led the CFL team in rushing last season with 809 yards, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Riders’ regular-season finale. He was expected to miss the 2019 season while recovering from the injury.

Mason’s release on Friday leaves William Powell, Marcus Thigpen, Kienan LaFrance and Jamal Morris as the tailbacks on the Riders’ roster.

Also released Friday were linebacker Paul Dawson and receiver Douglas McNeil III, both internationals.

The Riders also announced the signings of international defensive lineman Jeremy Faulk, international defensive back Davon Jernigan and national defensive back Jacob Dearborn.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Faulk joins the Riders after a stint with the Birmingham Iron of now-defunct Alliance of American Football. Prior to that, Faulk spent time with the NFL’s New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns.

Jernigan, measuring in at six feet and 208 pounds, spent four seasons at Lamar University, dressing for 42 games. In 2018, he had 111 defensive tackles, a sack and four interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown) en route to being named a first-team Southland Conference all-star.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Dearborn spent three seasons with the Carleton University Ravens. He dressed for eight games in 2018, registering eight defensive tackles, a sack and an interception.
