A Prince Edward Islander has been called up to the National Hockey League.
The Edmonton Oilers summoned right-winger Josh Currie of Charlottetown from the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League on Monday.
The 26-year-old Currie played the 2008-09 season with the Summerside Western Capitals of the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League), and he would go on to play four seasons with the P.E.I. Rocket in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Currie has recorded 37 points, including a team-leading 24 goals, in 49 regular-season games this year.
Currie, in his fifth season with Bakersfield, signed his first NHL contract with the Oilers in July 2018.
The Oilers’ next game is at home against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night.
