CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Morell Chevies scored three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to defeat the Grant Thornton Tigers 5-2 Sunday at Memorial Field to open their Kings County Baseball League season.
Troy Coffin picked up the win, striking out nine in five innings, while Logan Gallant struck out five during the final two innings for the save.
Parker Gallant took the loss for the Tigers, with relief from Tyler Johnston.
Jarrod Laybolt and Darcy Affleck led the Chevies attack with a pair of two-run doubles, while Parker Day had a hit and reached base three times in his Chevy debut.
Jordan Duffy, John Savidant, Elijah Hood and Josh Kelly had the Tigers hits.
The Chevies host Peakes Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Morell.
