GATINEAU, QUE. – Triathlete Martin Sobey topped the podium Saturday, finishing first in the elite division of the Grand Prix final A in Gatineau, Que.

The Charlottetown native crossed in a total time of 24 minutes, eight seconds and four-tenths of a second, just two-tenths of a second ahead of second-place finisher Edouard Garneau (:24:08:6). Sobey completed the swim in :4:03, the bike race in :10:23 and the run in :9:14 to top the 44-competitor field.

With the victory, the 21-year-old continued his good start to the season. He’s twice placed 13th and has an 18th-place finish in three international triathlons so far and was top Canadian in all three events.

Next up, Sobey races in a Major League Triathlon race Saturday in Atlantic City, N.J.
