Club de Foot Montréal, formerly the Impact, has traded striker Maximiliano Urruti to the Houston Dynamo for Slovenian centre-back Aljaz (Kiki) Struna and an international roster spot for the 2021 season. Montreal also surrendered a second-round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft and a percentage of any sell-on fee if Struna is transferred outside of Major League Soccer.
“We are pleased to add a tall centre-back to our defensive core,” said CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He has experience in MLS and on the international scene, and he’s played several years in Italy. I would like to thank Maxi for his two seasons with us and wish him the best of luck in Houston.”
The 6-foot-2 Struna joined the Houston Dynamo FC on Dec. 24, 2018, from Italian club Palermo FC. He played 46 MLS games with Houston, including 45 starts. He also played 21 games with the Slovenian national team.
In his last two seasons with Montreal, Maxi Urruti scored nine goals and added eight assists in 46 regular-season games. He missed the second leg of the Impact’s CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final against CD Olimpia because he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
