POWNAL, P.E.I. — Emmett Lyons had a goal and set up the winner Monday as the Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack defeated the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils 3-2 to take Game 1 of the Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs.
Game 2 of the best-of-three quarter-final goes Thursday at 8:20 p.m. at Cody Banks Arena. The winner of the series plays the regular season champion Western Regals in a best-of-five semifinal. Mid-Isle and Kings County open their semifinal Monday in Souris.
Monday at the Pownal Sports Centre, Owen Matheson and Nick Reeves also scored in the victory while John MacKinnon had the other assist.
Cole McKeigan and Sam Parsons scored for Pownal with Will MacDougall earning the lone assist.
Keegan Duffy earned the win while Logan Birt took the loss.
After a scoreless first period, Central took a 2-1 lead to the third. Parsons tied it 11:51 into the third while Matheson scored the winner with 2:49 left in regulation.
Central was 0-for-5 on the power play while Pownal was 0-for-3.
