SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Members from the Summerside Dolphin Swim Club gathered at Kool Breeze Farms Garden Centre and Farm Market on Saturday morning to make a splash and wash cars all in support of their upcoming trip to Iceland.

“We have about 17 of the 19 swimmers that are going to Iceland participating in the car wash today to raise funds for their training trip,” commented Bill Meisner, the Summerside Dolphin Swim Club vice-president.

Iceland is awash with natural geothermal water, making it a perfect destination for serious swimmers to assemble, as well as soak in the culture.

“There are lots of long course pools in Iceland, so when they come back and hit the end of season long-course Swim Meets, they will be in tip top shape and ready to roll,” continued Meisner, who will be one of the chaperones on the trip.

“Hopefully they will learn some of the Icelandic language while they are over there too,” he added.

Club member, Lauren Folland said the car wash is a good way to spend time “building team spirit.”

Kate MacKenzie, aged 14, added, “I’m really excited to visit Iceland. I’ve never been anywhere that far away, so I’m looking forward to experiencing a new culture.”

The trip to Iceland is from Saturday, June 2-9.
