SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The 23rd annual David Voye Memorial rugby tournament will honour the memory of Brodie McCarthy this weekend.
During the 2018 tournament at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside McCarthy suffered a serious head injury while playing in a round-robin game for Montague. McCarthy, who was a Grade 12 student, was transported to hospital in Moncton, N.B., where he underwent surgery and later died.
Last year’s Tier 1 boys’ and girls’ final games were cancelled the following day.
The Brodie McCarthy Award will be presented to the team showing the most sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
“We felt it was important to recognize Brodie’s memory,” said Three Oaks athletic director Joel Arsenault. “These are qualities that Brodie was known for.”
