SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals continue to move up the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s (CJHL) top-20 rankings.
The Caps jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 in the latest rankings released Monday morning. This is the highest the Caps have been ranked this season. A total of 131 teams make up the CJHL.
The Capitals, who have won nine games in a row and 10 of their last 11, sit atop the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s overall standings at 33-5-1 (won-lost-overtime losses).
The Capitals, under the guidance of general manager Pat McIver and head coach Billy McGuigan, hold an 11-point lead over the Edmundston Blizzard (25-8-6) in the overall standings and in the Eastlink North Division. Edmundston received an honour mention in this week’s rankings.
The Capitals won two road games last week – a 4-3 overtime decision against the Fredericton Red Wings (23-14-3) and 9-3 versus the Grand Falls Rapids (12-23-4).
The Brooks Bandits (40-5-1) of the Alberta Junior Hockey League remain the top-ranked team in Canada.
The Caps are back in action on Thursday as the Miramichi Timberwolves (10-25-4) visit Eastlink Arena for a 7 p.m. start.
