CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Sammy Blais is coming back to Prince Edward Island this summer a Stanley Cup champ.
The St. Louis Blues forward and former Charlottetown Islander will take part in the second annual Charlottetown Islanders Golf Classic on July 4 at the Links at Crowbush Cove.
“I’m so excited to come back to Prince Edward Island this summer,” said Blais. “I enjoyed my short time in Charlottetown and can’t wait to catch up with friends and former teammates.”
Blais joined the Islanders for the second half of the 2015-16 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season. The Isles sent Alexandre Goulet to the Victoriaville Tigres to acquire the offensive forward and Blais helped spark Charlottetown’s turnaround with 42 points in 32 games.
The 23-year-old Montmagny, Que., native recorded four points in 32 regular season games this season. He had a goal and an assist in 15 playoff games while being a physical force for the Blues.
Blais, who was originally selected in the sixth round, 176th overall, by the Blues in the 2014 draft, will be the first member of the Islanders/P.E.I. Rocket franchise to have his name on the Stanley Cup.
“Sammy left a mark on the franchise in his run with the Islanders,” said Islanders vice-president of sales and marketing Jason Maclean. “His accomplishments thus far in his young career are extremely impressive; not many can say they are a Stanley Cup champion, let alone at just 23. We’re proud to be able to call him a former Islander, and excited that he’ll be joining us at the golf classic.”
Blais joins a number of notable alumni confirmed to be in attendance at the classic, including current Edmonton Oilers forward and former Rocket captain Josh Currie, Antoine Bibeau, Chris Doyle, Matthew Welsh, Keith Getson, Hunter Drew, Mitchell Balmas, Pascal Aquin and Nicolas Meloche.

The cost is $500 and includes three green fees for a round of golf with a current or former Islander or Rocket, transportation to Crowbush from the Eastlink Centre, a BBQ buffet following the round and opportunities for prizes on the course. All funds raised goes to the Islanders players education fund.
