SLEMON PARK, P.E.I. — The Twisted Sisters are excited to return to familiar territory.

Summerside’s roller derby team will host its 2019 home opener on Saturday at The Plex in Slemon Park. The tripleheader, which features 40-minute bouts scheduled for 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m., will include the Twisted Sisters, Fredericton Spitfires and the Kickin’ Vixens from New Glasgow, N.S.
“The (Twisted) Sisters are super pumped to finally be hosting their home opener,” said co-captain Shelley Schurman, known as Hellcat Fury. “We have a great relationship with the Vixens and the Spitfires, and we are so ready to rock these bouts.”
The Twisted Sisters feature a strong veteran roster, including one new member – Larissa MacCarville (Shut Er Down).

  • Schedule

  • Schedule for Twisted Sisters’ home opener at The Plex:
  • 4 p.m. – Twisted Sisters vs. Fredericton Spitfires.
  • 5:30 p.m. – Twisted Sisters vs. Kickin Vixens.
  • 7 p.m. – Spitfires vs. Vixens.

Coaching each other
Without a regular coach, team members have been enjoying the opportunity to coach each other and have been focusing on their various strengths and weaknesses. Summerside has played three away games already this season and had to charter players from other teams to fill out the roster when some members were unable to attend. This will be the first bout of the season in which the Twisted Sisters will feature a full roster, along with one addition from Charlottetown’s Bootleg Betties, Jerica Springer.
Two weeks ago, the Twisted Sisters, Spitfires and Kickin’ Vixens participated in the Muddy River Jamboree. The scores were all very tight in the fast-paced derby tournament in Moncton, N.B. The final score for the Vixens versus Sisters bout was 89-70, so Summerside will be looking to get back on top on home turf.
These two teams have developed a friendly rivalry over the years, with the scores going back and forth. The Spitfires have a mixture of several solid veteran players and some new faces on this year’s roster. They will be a somewhat untested opponent the Sisters are looking forward to facing in front of a home crowd.

Fundraiser
Admission is by donation and the Twisted Sisters have announced that 50-per-cent of the proceeds will be donated to the Chief Mary Bernard Memorial Women’s Shelter.
The doors open at 3:30 p.m. This is a family-friendly event and there will be music, snacks, refreshments and activities for kids.
