A year ago Wednesday, the proud, defending champion Golden State Warriors delayed the dreams of Raptors fans by winning Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals 106-105.

The Raptors would have to wait to claim the team’s first NBA title and would have to do it later in the week in Oakland, instead of in front of the adoring Canadian masses (though quite a few Canadians managed to make it to Oracle Arena for the next game).

Superstar forward Kevin Durant made a surprising return to action, scoring in 11 points in just under 12 minutes to boost the Warriors. But the comeback was short-lived, as Durant suffered a horrific injury, marring the Warriors win. Durant tore his Achilles in his final moments with the team before leaving via free agency in the summer.

Stephen Curry added 31 points, Klay Thompson 26 and the team shot 46% from the field and nailed 20 three-pointers.

Still, the Raptors had a chance to win, but Kyle Lowry’s shot did not fall. The Raptors shot just 8-for-32 (25%) from three-point range and still came close.

Relive the highs and the lows of Game 5 now.
