MONCTON, N.B. – The P.E.I. Under-19 Eagles are off to a winning start at the Eastern Canadian women’s softball championship in Moncton.
The Eagles defeated the Stealers from Nova Scotia 4-2 Friday in the first of three games on the day. P.E.I. beat New Brunswick 7-0 in five innings in Game 2 and play Ontario at 6 p.m. at the five-team tournament.
Margaret Reynolds threw a gem to win the opener.
Sydney Halliwell went 2-for-3 with three RBI to pace the offence while Kenzie Arsenault was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Haley Savidant was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Cornwall native Jada Yeo was Nova Scotia’s top hitter, going 3-for-4, while Casey Hogan was 2-for-3.
Halliwell picked up the victory in Game 2.
Emily Cairns was 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the offence. Arsenault was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs while Kaelyn white went 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Eagles will host the under-19 Eastern Canadians next week in Charlottetown.
