CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Chatham Ironmen swept a New Brunswick Senior Baseball League doubleheader from the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders at Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Ironmen pulled out a 3-2 win in the opener and then took Game 2 by a 9-4 count. The results left the Ironmen at 13-12 (won-lost) while the Islanders will take a 9-18 record into Sunday night’s road game against the Moncton Fisher Cats (12-13).

The Ironmen scored all three runs in the top of the first inning and the Islanders answered with a deuce in their half of the second.
Winning pitcher Ian Hardman allowed two earned runs, five hits, three walks and struck out nine in going the distance. Jack Kraft also worked seven innings for the Islanders, giving up two earned runs, three hits, three walks and fanning three.
Mike McKay (1-2), Jake Cook (1-3, run scored) and Jamie Walls (1-3) had Chatham’s hits. Orry Cook and Nolan Levy also scored for the Ironmen.
Kraft (1-3), Avery Arsenault (1-3, run scored), Grant Grady (1-3, double), Taylor Larkin (1-3) and Kody Matthews (1-4) were Charlottetown’s top hitters. Johnny Arsenault also crossed home plate for the Islanders.

The Ironmen scored four times in each the third and fourth innings to open up a commanding 8-2 lead.
Affiliated player Nick Noel (2-3, walk, two runs scored) and Orry Cook (2-4, three runs scored) had multiple-hit games for the Ironmen.
Matthews (3-4, double, three runs scored, stolen base), Logan Gallant (2-3, double) and Grady (2-4, run scored) sparked the Islanders’ attack.
The Fredericton Royals have announced they have added Gallant to their roster for the upcoming Canadian senior baseball championship in Miramichi, N.B.
Winning pitcher Zack Newman allowed two earned runs on four hits and finished with two strikeouts in four solid innings of relief. Arsenault started for the Islanders and took the loss. His line read four innings, eight runs (four earned), six hits, one walk and one strikeout. Porter Smith, who gave up one earned run, three hits and one walk, worked the final three innings in relief.
