Rays outlast Tigers 1-0 on walkoff in 13th inning

Pinch-hitter Michael Brosseau hit a two-out single in the bottom of the 13th, snapping a long Tampa Bay scoring drought and giving the Rays a 1-0 win over the visiting Detroit Tigers on Saturday.

Brosseau's game-winner knocked in Eric Sogard, who doubled after Matt Hall (0-1) retired the first two batters in the inning. Tampa Bay had gone scoreless in 29 consecutive innings before the breakthrough run.

Rays pitchers struck out 24 batters, the most in Tigers' franchise history.

Colin Poche (3-4) pitched the final inning for the victory. Sogard was the only batter for either team to have two hits. Detroit went hitless after the seventh inning.

Tampa Bay starter Ryan Yarbrough gave up just three hits and struck out a career-best 10 in 6 1/3 innings. Detroit starter Jordan Zimmermann, activated off the 10-day IL prior to the game, allowed one hit and struck out five in five innings.

Yarbrough hit Dawel Lugo with a pitch in the first inning. Lugo was the only baserunner for either side through the first three innings.

Lugo led off the fourth with a single but was quickly erased on a double play.

Tommy Pham doubled with one out in the bottom of the inning. Zimmermann responded by retiring the next two batters.

John Hicks had a one-out double in the fifth but Yarbough then set down Travis Demeritte on a pop fly and Jake Rogers on a strikeout.

The Rays had two baserunners in the sixth. Willy Adames led off with a single and Pham drew a two-out walk. But reliever Gregory Soto retired Austin Meadows on a flyout to end the inning.

Yarbrough departed after giving up a one-out double to Niko Goodrum in the seventh. Chaz Roe came in and struck out Brandon Dixon and Hicks.

Nick Anderson struck out the side in the top of the eighth. Emilio Pagan did the same in the top of the ninth.

Diego Castillo struck out the first two batters of the 11th.

The Rays loaded the bases in the 11th but Travis d'Arnaud then bounced into a double play.
