REGINA, Sask. — The P.E.I. Youth Selects have qualified for the seventh-place game at the Canada Cup Canadian under-17 baseball championship in Regina, Sask.

The Selects are scheduled to play New Brunswick in a battle of teams with identical 3-2 (won-lost) records late Sunday afternoon. New Brunswick defeated the Youth Selects 11-1 in five innings in the opening game for both teams on Wednesday.
Since that game, however, the Selects have won three of their next last four games, including a solid 3-1 decision over previously-undefeated Nova Scotia late Saturday night. Nova Scotia (4-1) is scheduled to play Quebec (4-2) in the semifinals on Sunday.

Jack MacKenzie pitched 6 1/3 solid innings to earn the win against Nova Scotia. MacKenzie allowed just one earned run on eight hits, one walk and he finished with seven strikeouts. Tyler Taylor, who drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning, recorded the final two outs to earn the save.
Dylan Worth’s double added an insurance run in the fifth for the Youth Selects while Carter MacNeil’s ground out scored P.E.I.’s first run in the second inning after Nova Scotia jumped out in front 1-0 in the top of the first.
Nolan Ryan (1-2) and MacNeil (1-3) had the other hits for P.E.I., which played error-free ball in the seven-inning game.
