SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — P.E.I. got off to a winning start the 2019 Ray Carter Cup on Thursday morning.
Will Morrison had two hits in three at-bats and scored a run while Sam Worth pitched 4 2/3 innings in leading the Island squad to a 6-2 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canadian 15-under baseball championship in Oshawa, Ont.
Cody McCormack (1-1, two runs scored), Jacob Dunn (1-2), Caden Doyle (1-3, run scored) and Owen Lynch (1-2, run batted in) had the other P.E.I. hits. Declan Campbell also had an RBI for P.E.I., which scored three unearned runs.
Worth earned the pitching victory, allowing two earned runs on three hits, three walks and striking out eight. McCormack pitched hitless ball over the final 2 1/3 innings.
P.E.I. was scheduled to play Manitoba later Thursday.
