CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Prince Edward Island will play for bronze medals today at two Canadian baseball championships.

In semifinal play, P.E.I. lost 3-2 to British Columbia at the 15-and-under championship in Oshawa, Ont., and 8-6 to Ontario One at the 13-and-under competition in Repentigny, Que.

15-and-under

B.C. scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fifth while P.E.I. scored singles in the first and seventh innings at the Ray Carter Cup 15-and-under competition.

Cody McCormack and Caden Doyle each went 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI while Sam Worth and Jacob Dunn also singled.

Noah Cassie allowed a run on three hits and two walks in six innings for the win while Ryan Heppner gave up a run on hit and a walk to record the save.

Dunn, P.E.I.’s starter, allowed three runs, including an unearned run, in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out two. Christopher MacDougall gave up a hit and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

P.E.I. is 5-2 before the 3:30 p.m. bronze-medal game with Manitoba, which lost 5-1 to Ontario in its semifinal.

13-and-under

Prince Edward Island led 3-0 after the first inning and 6-1 going to the bottom of the fourth.

Ontario struck for two in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead before tacking on one in the sixth.

Tyler Wood had two of the Island squad’s eight hits while Jack MacKinnon went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI and Yasu Hojo went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Will White, Thomas MacEachern, Owen Murphy and Callum Thomson also had hits while Murphy drove in a run.

MacKinnon allowed six runs, four of them unearned, on five hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five. Hojo allowed two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief while striking out three.

P.E.I. (2-3) will play Ontario Two (4-1), which lost to the host squad 6-3 in the semifinal, in the bronze medal game at 4:30 p.m.
