P.E.I. splits contests at Canada Games softball competition

WINNIPEG, MAN. – Parker Ronahan went 3-for-3 with two doubles to pace Team P.E.I. to an 11-7 victory Monday at the Canada Games softball competition.

P.E.I. split its games on Monday, losing 11-4 to Ontario in five innings, and is 3-3 heading into today’s play. P.E.I. meets Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec today at 1 and 4 p.m., respectively, Atlantic.

Stephen O’Shea and Ty McAdam each had two hits while Avery Arsenault, Matt Lange, Jonathan Arsenault, Logan Gallant and Sam Walsh each contributed one as the Island squad collected 12 hits.

Jonathan Arsenault allowed a run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Gallant gave up six runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

P.E.I. led 7-2 after three before Alberta pulled back in it with a five-run fourth inning. P.E.I. answered with three in their inning and never looked back.

Ontario scored five runs in the fifth en route to a mercy rule victory.

Jonathan Arsenault was tagged for 11 runs, including two unearned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out one.

Lange was 3-for-3 with two solo home runs while McAdam was 2-for-3 while Ronahan and Walsh each had a hit.
