SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Chevys finished sixth overall in the eight-team Baseball Canada 2018 Atlantic 13-and-under championship.
Truro, N.S., defeated the Chevys 10-7 in the fifth-place game at Queen Elizabeth Park on Saturday morning. The Chevys completed play in the four-day tournament 1-3 (won-lost) while Truro is 2-2.
Truro scored nine unanswered runs over three innings, including six in the top of the third, to open up a commanding 9-1 lead. The never-say-die Chevys scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score close.
Eli James and Simon Mullen each had two hits for Truro while Cole Burbidge drove in a pair of runs.
For Summerside, Tyson Wedge (1-2, run scored, three runs batted in), Cole Echlin (2-4, two runs scored), Caleb Gallant (1-2, run scored), Josh Burgess (1-4, run scored), Jacob Watkins (1-3, run scored, RBI) and Owen Jones (1-4, RBI).
Aidan McBurnie earned the pitching win, and Elliott Proud took the loss.
Also on Saturday morning, St. John’s trimmed Mount Pearl 18-2 in an all Newfoundland and Labrador clash for seventh place.
