The host Summerside Chevys capped a perfect weekend with a thrilling 16-15 walk-off win over the Kentville Wildcats in the championship game at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Overall, the Chevys posted a 5-0 (won-lost) tournament record while outscoring their opponents 73-38. However, the final game was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the last inning.
Exciting finish
The Wildcats, who dropped a 9-6 decision to the Chevys in the round robin, connected for a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
The Chevys’ Cody McCormack led off the bottom of the seventh with a double. That set the table for Donovan Arsenault’s game-winning double, which plated McCormack with the title-winning run to give the Chevys a wild 16-15 victory.
Declan Campbell earned the pitching win in relief of McCormack and Hayden Ellis.
