Max Muncy hit a game-ending home run deep into the seats in right-center field as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned yet another walk-off victory, defeating the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 in 10 innings on Wednesday night.
It was the Dodgers' 11th walk-off victory of the season and improved the club to a baseball-best 50-16 at home this season.
Muncy's game-ending shot came off Blue Jays left-hander Tim Mayza (1-3) and was his 33rd of the season. Muncy also tied a Dodgers record by hitting a home run in his fifth consecutive game.
The Dodgers were two outs away from victory in the ninth inning before Toronto's Rowdy Tellez hit a game-tying home run, his 15th of the season, off struggling Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen. It was Jansen's sixth blown save of the season and second consecutive after also blowing an opportunity Aug. 9 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Right-hander Pedro Baez (7-2) pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the victory. Walker Buehler pitched seven shutout innings and rookie Will Smith hit a home run, but the Dodgers could not hold on to their slim lead. Buehler gave up five hits with no walks and had eight strikeouts.
The Dodgers had just one run through nine innings one day after they scored 16 against the Blue Jays. The two home runs gave the Dodgers 32 homers over their past nine games.
Smith clanked his homer off the left-field foul pole in the fourth inning, his 12th in just 28 career games.
In the very next at-bat, the Dodgers' Chris Taylor attempted an inside-the-park home run when his drive to the right-center gap got past Toronto outfielders Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez. But Cavan Biggio's relay throw to catcher Reese McGuire just beat a diving Taylor at home plate.
Following consecutive defeats on the road against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, the Dodgers returned to Los Angeles where victories have come in bunches. They have won consecutive games to open the current series and have taken nine of their last 10 at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers will be looking for their 10th series sweep of at least three games when they face the Blue Jays on Thursday night.
